Knee down master Philip Buckley gives his tips on how to get your knee down.
Main thing is to relax. Get your weight off the bars and get used to leaning the bike and controlling the throttle to keep the bike balanced and settled (so slightly accelerating) as you look through the bend and keep a thought for what is going on around you.
When you're comfy with that work on your position: - Balls of your feet on the pegs
- One butt cheek on, one off the seat and you should be able to get a fag packet between 'you' and the tank
- Spine parallel with the bike
- Outside knee should be locked into the cutout on the tank, your elbow can also rest on top
- Upper body down so your forearms are level and parallel with the road
- If you can see your helmet's chin-bar in your mirror then you're in good shape :)
Again, weight off the bars so you can 'feel' the throttle, relax and enjoy. Inside knee should be well and truly free to go seek that tarmac by now. Push it out and towards the back of the bike - this will keep you parallel with the bike rather than pivoting around the tank. Relax, play with your speed (the quicker you are, the further over you'll be) and take care.
Any anxiety or feeling tired - pull in, rest and think/debrief. Someone watching to monitor is great, photos and video is even better, a "the fish was this big" or thumbs up when your out there and sooooooo close really helps. ;)
Oh, and budget for a few sets of sliders as after you hear that first scrchhhchchchhshsshhhh... 8) Plastics, rodded sparkies, full titanium, leather? |
